About Kate
My journey with horses started about 35 years ago when I was given my first horse Monster. A kind thought but a big mistake by parents who had no idea that I would get so completely and utterly hooked on this past time that drains all available financial and emotional resources.
I’ve worked hard to keep my horses, done my time cleaning toilets as a teenager to pay the farrier, to running a livery yard so that I could keep them how I wanted to finally having them at home where I can watch them from the windows, a dream come true.
And what an amazing and wonderful 35 years it has been so far. I have been blessed with many horses that have wandered and galloped through my life, and I owe as much to the ones that ran to me as the ones that ran from me, the one that would jump his heart out for me to the one that would stop suddenly and watch me fly over the jump instead. I’m very happy to have loved them all and forever grateful for all that they have taught me.
I have worked with many trainers, choosing carefully and often watching them work with others before taking lessons with them myself, they have all taught me so much but a few stand out as amazing and it was only about five years ago that I settled on the ones that I felt were the very best. These teachers have been my toughest critics yet have become my mentors and my friends and they have supported me in my quest to become a teacher myself.
So what makes a great teacher? I believe that this is more than someone who is gifted at their craft, this is an exemplary communicator who can pass their knowledge onto others through their teaching. This is someone who will not keep their knowledge to themselves but will happily share all that they know and if you show that you are dedicated they will be generous with their time.
This is what I strive to be. I spend many hours with lots of different horses, working with them, playing with them and learning from them. I spend as many weeks a year as I can with my teachers who continue to let me into their vast depths of knowledge and I study the art of communication through Neuro Linguistic Programming becoming an NLP Practitioner and Confidence Coach and soon to be qualified Master NLP Practitioner and Hypnotherapist.
I visit students who want to learn how Natural Horsemanship will help them overcome many handling and riding problems and who want to use these skills to compliment their existing riding.
Through NLP and Hypnotherapy I can also offer sessions away from the horses dealing with life issues and confidence coaching.
